Humility only for the truth- not for rascals! by Prabhupad Saraswati Thakur

Sometimes, there is a misunderstanding that humility means sentimental submissiveness, where one takes a weak position and accepts anything and everything, even if it is against Hari, Guru, Vaisnava and bhakti.

Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur Prabhupada has established: "The mahājanas (the great spiritual authorities) have advised that one’s humility should not be made evident in front of anyone and everyone. To express one’s humility in front of an atheist who is envious of śrī guru and the Vaiṣṇavas, in front of a demoniac person like Rāvaṇa or in front of a pretentious brāhmaṇa, is not vaiṣṇava-sevā, nor is it tṛṇād api sunīcatā. If a person does so, he can never attain the ability to perform kīrtana, nor can he develop taste for chanting the holy names. In fact, such a misplaced display of humility is an act of violence toward other living entities.".... "Humility implies perfect submission to the truth and no sympathy for untruth. A person who entertains any partiality for untruth is unfit to chant the kirtana of Hari."

Very dificult time is coming in Gaudiya Vaishavism.

"After the time of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, those faithful to Him kept apart from nondevotees, to avoid contamination. Seeing this, the personality of Kali sent his representatives in disguise to pollute the Vaisnava sampradaya. Posing as Vaisnavas, they spread their wicked doctrines, and appeared so intelligent and devoted that only pure devotees could detect their real identity. Most devotees -- not only the most neophyte – were enchanted by their tricks. In this way Kali's agents expertly introduced karma, jnana, and anyabhilasa in the Vaisnava sampradaya and caused suddha-bhakti to vanish from the world."

Bhagavad Gita Chapter 16 verse 17

ātma-sambhāvitāḥ stabdhā
dhana-māna-madānvitāḥ
yajante nāma-yajñais te
dambhenāvidhi-pūrvakam

TRANSLATION
Self-complacent and always impudent, deluded by wealth and false prestige, they sometimes perform sacrifices in name only without following any rules or regulations.

PURPORT
Thinking themselves all in all, not caring for any authority or scripture, the demoniac sometimes perform so-called religious or sacrificial rites. And since they do not believe in authority, they are very impudent. This is due to illusion caused by accumulating some wealth and false prestige. Sometimes such demons take up the role of preacher, mislead the people, and become known as religious reformers or as incarnations of God. They make a show of performing sacrifices, or they worship the demigods, or manufacture their own God. Common men advertise them as God and worship them, and by the foolish they are considered advanced in the principles of religion, or in the principles of spiritual knowledge. They take the dress of the renounced order of life and engage in all nonsense in that dress. Actually there are so many restrictions for one who has renounced this world. The demons, however, do not care for such restrictions. They think that whatever path one can create is one's own path; there is no such thing as a standard path one has to follow. The word avidhi-pūrvakam, meaning disregard for the rules and regulations, is especially stressed here. These things are always due to ignorance and illusion.

How then can one who is covered by ignorance give divine, transcendental, spiritual knowledge consisting of metaphysical knowledge of God and creation, the process of devotional service, and the goal of love of God?

Rather, unqualified persons who falsely present themselves as spiritual masters are engaged in bringing about ruin on themselves and the world. The relation between a spiritual master and his disciple is something of great significance. It is a great responsibility—indeed, it is a matter of life and death.

Yet, out of their greed for gain, prestige, and adoration, there are still irresponsible people who treat it as lightly as a child’s game.

Quoted from the Book “Art of sadhana” by Sri Srimad Bhaktipramoda Puri Goswami Maharaja

Everything is possible in the realm of pure devotees.

Srila Bhakti Dayita Madhav Goswami Maharaj ‘Vishnupad’, disciple of His Divine Grace Srila Bhakti Siddhant Saraswati Goswami Thakur Prabhupada, was once engaged in preaching programs across Assam (a state in India).

One of the disciples of Sree Chaitanya Gaudiya Math requested Him that if He can come and perform shraadha (ceremony ritual to pay homage to departed souls) of disciple’s deceased father. Disciple said that his father was not a devotee, however, if Srila Madhav Maharaj will conduct this ceremony, then disciple’s father will be benefited.

Srila Madhav Maharaj replied after referring to His schedule that He would be in Kolkata at that time, where preaching programs would be going on. So, He said that He will send some competent person or devotee for the ceremony. Disciple requested politely that it would be good for disciple’s family, if Srila Madhav Maharaj can come.

During the preaching programs in Kolkata, Srila Madhav Maharaj asked Srila Bhakti Ballabh Tirtha Goswami Maharaj, Sri Mangal Nilay Prabhu and one of His godbrothers (Srila Krishna Keshav Brahmchari) to go to Assam. The train to Assam was delayed, due to which the devotees could not reach the desitantion on time. When they were bit far from the house of the said devotee, who has invited, the trio saw that the function is over, and everyone is washing hands after honoring prasadam, etc.

Srila Mangal Nilay prabhu said that this is not nice. They did not wait for us and have concluded the program. So, we shall not go there now. Srila Tirtha Maharaj said that you are right. But, if Srila Gurudeva will ask about the program, then what will we reply. Delay was not because of us, but because of train. Srila Krishna Keshav prabhu agreed with Srila Tirtha Maharaj. So, all three went to devotee’s house.

Devotees were pleased to see them. They asked that why you did not come with Sri Madhav Maharaj? Had you come with Him, it would have been very nice. Sril Keshav Prabhu said that we have program of our Kolkata Math, so Sri Madhav Maharaj could not come. He has sent us. The devotees in the house stood stunned.

Then the disciple (host) came forward and said that what are you saying? Sri Gurudeva Madhav Maharaj came here. He gave a lecture (discourse), performed the ceremony and has just left after honoring prasadam. This time these three were stunned and began wandering that how is this possible? Host took them around and pointed where Srila Madhav Maharaj sat to give lecture, and where He performed ceremony and where He sat to honor prasadam, and so on. After that the three devotees bathed, honored prasadam, performed sankirtan in the evening and left for Kolkata , next day.

Once they reached Kolkata, they asked the resident devotees, that who was giving lecture yesterday. All answered that Srila Gurudeva and other Sannyasi (renounced) devotees gave lecture. Then these devotees inquired that in between did Srila Gurudeva went away for 2-3 days? The answer was negative. They were informed that two days back Srila Gurudeva along with lecture, lead Sankirtan as well. They were surprised.

After keeping the luggage in the respective rooms, they went to meet Srila Madhav Maharaj. They offered obeisances. Srila Madhav Maharaj inquired about the trip, program, etc.

Srila Tirtha Maharaj said, ‘ Our train was delayed. When we reached there, we heard from devotees that Yourself performed the ceremony, gave lecture, etc. ‘

Srila Madhav Maharaj smiled, but did not reply.

Srila Tirtha Maharaj again said that how could this be possible that Yourself were performing Sankirtan in Kolkata with devotees as well as performing ceremony in Assam (Assam is very far from Kolkata) at the same time.

Srila Madhav Maharaj did not reply and said, ‘You have traveled for so long. Freshen up and honor prasadam.’
