“Que tipo de coisa é isso O Bhagavat?”, pergunta o cavalheiro europeu que recentemente chegou a Índia. Seu amigo lhe diz com um olhar sereno que o Bhagavat é um livro, o qual seu amigo de Orissa recita diariamente à noite para alguns ouvintes. Isto é composto de gírias não-inteligentes e uma literatura selvagem daqueles homens que pintam seus narizes com um pouco de barro ou sândalo e colocam colares de contas ao redor do pescoço procurando salvação para si próprio. Um outro amigo que viajou um pouco pelo interior, iria imediatamente contradizê-lo e falaria que o Bhagavat é um trabalho Sânscrito clamado por uma classe de homens, os Goswamis, que outorgam mantras ao povo comum da Bengala assim como o papa faz na Itália, e perdoa seus pecados sob o pagamento em forma de ouro para manter suas despesas sociais. Um terceiro cavalheiro repetirá uma terceira explicação. Um jovem Bengali, educado nos pensamentos e idéias inglesas e completamente ignorante sobre a história Pre-Muçulmana do seu próprio país irá adicionar uma outra explicação dizendo que o Bhagavat é um livro formado pela história da vida de Krishna, que era um homem ambicioso e imoral! Isto é tudo que ele pôde absorver da sua avó nos tempos em que ainda não ia á escola! Assim, o grandioso Bhagavat sempre permanece desconhecido dos estrangeiros assim como o elefante cego de seis que agarra várias partes do corpo de um outro animal. Porém a Verdade é eterna e nunca é manchada, a não ser por enquanto, pela ignorância.

This article have the intention to present the popular edition of the Bhavisya Purana wich contain prophecies. But, here we will see how some parts were added by some Christians or Hindus on this known edition by giving some evidences related to the topics. Below the edition-translation of the Bhaviasya Purana as we know nowadays and in the end 2 comentaries about the parts that were added.

The Bhavishya Purana is an ancient text authored by Sri Vyasa Muni, the compiler of the Vedic texts. It is listed among the eighteen major Puranas. Bhavishya means "future" and Purana means "history", so the text's name would translate literally as "The History of the Future". Though the text was written many thousands of years before the recorded events took place, by the power of his mystic vision, Sri Vyasa was able to accurately predict the happenings of the modern times. One of the text's poetic styles is to present the events as though they have already happened. This is a common practice in Sanskrit poetry, and does not indicate that the book was written in modern times.

I myself [Svami] would never have been where I am today, if not already as a youth I doubted what people, poets, scholars said and prepared myself to learn the most strange languages, just to be able to read a text that dealt with God and the meaning of life in the original text itself and free myself from what others read into it from their mind and heart.

Then, on the second day after my arrival here [in India], my Gurudeva told me: “The first thing you have to do is to collect all what you learned, read, excerpted, felt, know. Put it in a big bag and throw it into the sea where the sea is deepest and start anew.”

Once when I felt sad, because I hadn’t been raised as a Hindu in India and didn’t have the inner associations that every Hindu has together with the concepts deva, devi, avatara, bhakti etc., he was even angry and said: “You missed nothing. It is a blessing that you did not imbibe all these associated ideas. You would have learned only wrong things. There is nothing to be learned from people, poets etc. You have to learn from God directly – i.e. what God teaches in His Own words.”
