Parampujyapad Srimad Bhakti Gaurav Vaikhanas Maharaj appeared in 1877 on Pratipad-tithi during the dark fortnight in the month of Kartik. On 22nd January 1966, at the age of 89, he en...tered in to the mid-noon eternal pastimes of Sri Radha Krishna in the village Gonju, Distt. Ganjam.
He had detachment to the worldly life. After seeing the portrait of Srila Prabhupad Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Goswami Thakur, he got attracted and completely surrendered to him. He accepted the shelter of Prabhupad in Sri Mayapur. In 1933, he took Harinam and Diksha.
His earlier name was Sri Ujjvaleswar Patyayoshi and he served as a priest in the court of the king of Radgad district in Orissa. Seeing his extraordinary scholarliness, the king gave him the designation ‘Patyayoshi’.
He was named Sri Ujjwal Rasananda Das after taking diksha from Srila Prabhupad. In the year 1934 after taking tridanda sannyas, he became known by name Tridandi Swami Srimad Bhakti Gaurav Vaikhanas Maharaj. On the Appearance day of Sriman Mahaprabhu, he accepted sannyas at Sri Yogpitha.
In a rented house in Barhampur and in Gonju, he established Sri Saraswat Ashram. There he installed Sri Guru Gauranga Kishori Kishoranand Deities. He stayed there till the fag end of his earthly pastimes. At Tota-Gopinath temple in Puri, Our Most Revered Srila Gurudev Nityalila-pravista Om Vishnupad Srila Bhakti Dayita Madhava Goswami Maharaj was the first to accept sannyas from him. Later, Parampujyapad Srila Bhakti Pramode Puri Goswami Maharaj accepted sannyas from him at Champahati, Pujyapad Srimad Bhakti Saudh Ashram Maharaj accepted sannyas from him at Dumdum Math and Pujyapad Srimad Bhakti Jivan Janardhan Maharaj of Sri Gaur-vani Vinod ashram in Kharagpur also took sannyas from him.
During the time of Prabhupad and later, Srila Vaikhanas Maharaj used to deliver speeches full with devotional conclusions in Sanskrit language. Even at his very old age, he had a strong remembrance power. I had heard him eloquently chant the prayers to the womb of Devaki, Prayers of Brahma, 5 chapters of Lord’s Rasa description, Prayers of Prahlad, Prayers of Gajendra, Prayers in Brahma Samhita, Prayers of Sri Rupa and Raghunath, entire Srimad Bhagavad-Gita and veda-mantras. He was an expert in mantra and tantra. He had also delivered a Brahmana, who became a Brahma-daitya, from the body of the spirits.
By the request of Our Most Revered Srila Gurudev, Srimad Bhakti Gaurav Vaikhanas Maharaj had foot his holy foot prints in Hyderabad. Srila Gurudev, himself holding an umbrella, brought Srila Vaikhanas Maharaj with great grandeur.
