Além de ser discípulo e amigo íntimo de Srila B.V.Swami Maharaj (Prabhupad), Srila Gurudev era sênior a ele em relação a sanyassa. Por isso, realizou todos os rituais assim como o ensinou a usar sua danda e kaupin, no dia em que aceitou sanyassa de Srila Keshav Goswami na Sri Keshavji Gaudiya Math em Mathura-dham. Foi apenas depois disso, que ele gloriosamente veio para o ocidente conceder a mais elevada forma de teísmo e livrar este mundo de todos os tipos de impersonalismo, niilismo e ateísmo.
